Advertisers recognise the value of STV and revenues continue to increase even in tough economic conditions. In fact, STV advertising revenue continued to grow through 2009 while the advertising revenue of all other forms of traditional media declined. STV total ad revenues in 2009 (Jan-Dec 2009) were $333 million, a 5% increase from 2008. In comparison, commercial television networks saw a revenue change of -8% for the calendar year.

While STV continues to expand in Australia the subscription rate of 29% of Australian homes is relatively small in comparison to the United States where STV services have been established since mid-1970.
