Phyllisse Stanton

Phyllisse Stanton

When I’m not at work I spend my time… hanging out with my BFF, Mr Stanton, following a black line on the bottom of a pool and walking my ferocious animals (aka the pooches).

The person that most influenced my decisions in life when I was younger was… Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore); she was funny, smart and worked in a TV newsroom; she had really cool hair too.

The last interesting book that I read was… Leviathan by John Birmingham.

My first job was… about age 18 working midnight to dawn in the newsroom at Channel 9, Willoughby. Those 3am phone calls from Mr Packer were a hoot. Amazing that anyone could string so many random swear words in a sequence and still make sense – brilliant!

My guiltiest pleasure is… shopping (maybe?) Tiramisu and Affogato.

At school, I was known for… my curly hair and trying to muster support for every cause going; No Nukes, No Dams, Save the Whales, Save the Koalas, Save the Forests etc.

My favourite movie of all time is… anything by Jacques Tati.

I know it’s not cool but I love… practical jokes, Italian words, tofu and watching synchronised swimming and diving.

The person I most admire is… anyone who volunteers their time to improve the lives of others; I meet some extraordinary people through Aurora Community Channel who are involved in wonderful, grass- roots initiatives that are making an enormous difference to the lives of everyday Australians. And Tony Iffland, the man is a Saint (not The Saint that’s Roger Moore).

My friends say that I… should shut up about (insert current newsworthy cause) and have a drink.

My hope for the future is that… the President of Australia removes the Union Jack from our flag and puts animal rights into legislation. Plus all usual stuff; world peace, ending poverty and saving endangered species.
