When I’m not at work I spend my time… Chasing our 2 year old daughter and taking care of our 8 week old son: chaos at the moment but a wonderful time.

The person that most influenced my decisions in life when I was younger was… MacGyver, when I was in trouble, he could get his way out of anything, and Monkey Magic. My dad made me a Monkey stick out of an old broom handle and a little one from a matchstick for behind my ear – just like Monkey! Rarely was a decision contemplated without my Monkey stick.

The last interesting book that I read was… Elmer the Patchwork Elephant. The joy it brings to my daughter’s face every time we read it never ceases to amaze. And I recently finished Richard Branson’s latest, Business Stripped Bare, which I enjoyed.

My first job was… Valet: parking cars at Mead’s Fish Gallery in Perth. About 3 weeks in I was backing a guest’s small Mazda out of the car park and crashed it into another guest’s Jag. The same night I managed to lose a guest’s keys with one of those diamond-studded gold key rings the guest had won for competing on Sale of the Century – remember those! Not my finest hour and needless to say that was the end of that!

My guiltiest pleasure… Hot chips. Especially during the winter I seem to be missing the gene that tells me they’re bad for me and I don’t need them!

At school, I was known for… Playing the trombone in the junior school brass band as I was the only kid big enough to hold it up!

My favourite movie of all time is… The Blues Brothers – fantastic music and amazing cameos; or any movie involving ninjas of some kind.

I know it’s not cool but I love… To pretend I could be the next James Bond.

The person I most admire is… My beautiful partner Laura for having the strength and patience to raise our children every day, my folks for having a marriage that’s as strong now as it was 35 years ago and anyone who can complete a cryptic crossword.

My friends say that I… Am only good for free tickets to sporting events.

My hope for the future is that… My children have as happy memories of their childhood as I do. And if that’s too soppy I hope that someone starts manufacturing low-cost jet-packs so we can fly around everywhere rather than sit in traffic!
