Subscription television represents one-third of the Australian broadcast industry, contributing $2.9bn to the national economy

In FY24, the Australian subscription television industry contributed $2.9 billion1 to the Australian economy, representing one-third of the total contribution of the Australian broadcasting industry2.

The analysis, completed by Deloitte Access Economics, also found that the subscription television industry contributed 17,000 full-time equivalent jobs3 during this period.

Other findings include:

  • 1.1 million hours of subscription television content was distributed in FY24, up 31% from 2022.
  • 91% of Australians watch online video content in any given week, with those aged 35+ driving increased viewership.
  • Viewing of paid subscription streaming services has risen dramatically from 29% in 2017 to 69% in 2024, with the average number of subscription services used increasing from 3.6 in 2023 to 4.3 in 2024.
