As the peak industry body for subscription television (STV), ASTRA supports and fosters emerging talent within STV channels, platforms and associated organisations.
A component of this is providing opportunities for the most creative, skilled and motivated students of broadcast and film to be exposed to, and offered training in, the STV environment.
ASTRA is pleased to collaborate with AFTRS (Australia Film, Television and Radio School) on this exciting program to provide graduate students of the AFTRS Foundation Diploma with a rare experience working with STV organisations under short-term work contracts.
About the Program
The 2015 ASTRA Graduate Program offered AFTRS graduates from the 2014 Foundation Diploma exposure to the dynamic and growing industry of STV a chance to experience roles in everything from production to marketing to programming. Participants gained transferable experience, built relationships and further developed career goals through a 13-week paid work contract.
Next generation of top TV talent who completed a Foundation Diploma from AFTRS have now worked with channels and platforms including Foxtel, FOX SPORTS, Disney Channel, SBS Subscription Television, Discovery Networks and TVSN. The ASTRA Graduate Program is a partnership with Australian Film, Television & Radio School (AFTRS) and provides employment pathways for creative talent in the competitive television industry.
The graduate program is part of ASTRA’s commitment to foster creativity and nurture talent among the STV industry. The graduates have joined over 8000 individuals employed by STV in dozens of businesses large and small, with the industry investing over $700 million in local production and adding over $2 billion to Australia’s GDP.
The Foundation diploma has now been upgraded to Bachelor of Arts degree. The first graduates of this new course will be eligable to apply for a paid internship with ASTRA at the end of 2017.
